The Nile Journeys is a bio-regional platform that creates opportunities to connects people and communities within the Nile Biosphere to care for the land, strengthen relationships, and pass on cultural wisdom. We focus on two main areas: restoring ecosystems and supporting young leaders. Our work combines hands-on land restoration, water conservation, and sustainable food systems with youth programs that build skills in peace-building, cultural re-connection, and leadership.
The Nile Journeys began as The Nile Forum, inaugurated in 2016. It grew from a gathering of forty people from eight Nile Basin countries, along with others connected to the river through study or partnership. Together, they explored the question: How can we shift the narrative of separation to one of connection within the Nile Bioregion? From this exchange came the vision of a Nile bio-region that supports life in all its forms.
Today, Nile Journeys is registered in three countries, and works with communities, youth networks, and regional partners to put this vision into practice across Africa and beyond. By restoring the ecosystem and creating opportunities for learning and collaboration, we aim to strengthen both the ecosystems and the social fabric of the Nile Basin and beyond. Our approach is inclusive, practical, and rooted in Ubuntu, that caring for nature and caring for each other go hand in hand.
